Vintage 1930's - 1940's Sealskin Semi Dress Sporran - Classic Scottish sealskin semi dress sporran with a leather surround and honey tone sealskin insert overlaid with three leather thistle style tassels. Good patina to the vintage leather.
There is always a quality in the vintage sealskin sporrans and this is a fine example of a 1930-40’s vintage sporran. Unlike later sealskin sporrans the earlier Scottish sealskin sporrans often had a beautiful honey tone or mottled pattern to the hide.

A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt.
