Victorian 1st Admin Battalion Aberdeenshire Rifle Volunteers unit was formed in May 1860 with the HQ at Inverurie. It became the 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders in 1884 and ultimately the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders in 1908.

The Gordon Highlanders

The Gordon Highlanders was a line infantry regiment of the British Army that existed for 113 years, from 1881 until 1994, when it was amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth Highlanders and Cameron Highlanders) to form the Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).
