19th C Style Bespoke Designed Scottish Goats Hair Sporrans

19th C Style Designed Scottish Goats Hair Sporrans - We design bespoke sporran molach ( hair sporrans) for clients around the world using new and vintage sporran cantles.

Much of our inspiration comes from the fine sporrans of the 19th and early 20th centuries. In particular we reference the fine sporrans shown in the paintings of Kenneth Macleay for his series of work for Queen Victoria's. His paintings in the portfolio The Highlanders of Scotland depict many of the fine sporrans of the 1850's-60's. So we look to the past for inspiration.

Our range of fine quality Scottish goat hair sporrans are hand made in Scotland.

Bespoke designed sporrans with a range of cantles and metal work and the goat hair body measures a perfectly respectable approx 16″ long.   (This being the longest we can “stretch” the goat hair to!)  To make the sporrans as functional as possible, they can have a very high quality leather back; and the large gusset sporran pocket, which is lined in chamois leather. We give the clients the choice.A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday  practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt.
