The Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums (MCV) was established in 1982, an exciting time that coincided with the conclusion of the Bicentennial celebrations. A group of talented musicians from the Boston area came together with a shared passion: to delve deeper into the traditional repertoires of the fife and drum corps associated with the European or American armies during the American War for Independence. Their aim was to uncover the rich musical heritage of that era.
Fast forward to today, and the MCV has undergone a remarkable transformation. While remaining true to the original mission, they have grown into a versatile and dynamic ensemble that showcases a wide range of musical genres. The repertoire now includes not only martial tunes but also captivating dance melodies and folk music, all carefully selected from 17th, 18th, and early 19th century sources in both America and Europe.
