Vintage Style Laird’s Sporran – Featuring vintage brass cantle
Vintage style Laird’s sporran featuring an original vintage brass sporran cantle. We had a wonderful brass vintage 1920’s sporran cantle that we have used to design a sporran based on an original worn by and still used by one of the Highland Lairds today on Speyside. This style of sporran cantle has been used in the past by the original Atholl Highlanders regiment of the line in the 18th C. The officers of the Transvaal Scottish regiment and civilians alike have also used this style of sporran cantle. Kenneth MacSween, one of the Harris men in the Highlanders of Scotland portrait by Kenneth MacLeay in the 1860's has a similar cantle on a fur sporran.
Hand crafted in antique leather with six tassels in the style of a Swinging Six. The sporran has been hand aged to start giving it that well loved patina, that will only build with age and useage. Size Approx. 22cm x 17cm – Hand crafted in Scotland
A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt.We have offer a range of new Scottish sporrans and much loved pre owned sporrans to complete your outfit or add to your collection.
