Pipe Major Plaid Brooch Set - We were recently were asked to recreate a Plaid brooch and cross belt - baldric brooch set as worn by the Pipe Major of the Highlanders. Based on the original Seaforth Highlanders this pattern plaid brooch has been used by the Pipe Major of the Queens Own Highlanders – The Highlanders.
The plaid brooch features a stags head on a battle honour plaid brooch and has the Highlanders thistle in the centre at the top.The Pipe Major’s cross belt - baldric brooch pattern has the Highlanders thistle in the centre at the top. However it has no battle honours and a scroll with the regimental motto Cuidich ‘n Righ below. Instead of a classic back pin it has two bolts to mount it on the cross belt.
The Highlanders,( Now 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) ) is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Prior to 28 March 2006, the Highlanders was an infantry regiment in its own right; The Highlanders ( Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany's), Gordon Highlanders and 79th Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders ), part of the Scottish Division. The regiment was one of only two in the British Army with a Gaelic motto – Cuidich ‘n Righ which means “Help the King”. The other regiment with a Gaelic motto is the Royal Irish Regiment, whose motto is Faugh a Ballagh (Anglicised Fag an Bealach, Clear the Way!)The pipers and drummers continue to wear the kilts in the Cameron of Erracht tartan to show the history of the regiment down through the years and changes to the regiments structure.
