Highlanders Regimental Pipers Sporran Project

Highlanders Regimental Pipers Sporran Project - A while ago we started to look at a project for an old client and fellow piper. He served in the Highlanders Pipes & Drums and having left the army continues to play and was looking for a sporran for No1 dress. The designed was to be based on the old Queens Own Highlanders sporran.

The last original cantle available was still in gilt so that had to be replated in a chrome - nickel finish, the leather insert then had an original Queens Own Highlanders thistle badge attached. Then a grey hair body was created with two black tassels with thistle cones. The back of the sporran was tooled and engraved with the new owners name. The sporran is now with it's new owner in Aberdeen and will hopefully be seen at many piping events for years to come.

The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.Prior to 28 March 2006, the Highlanders was an infantry regiment in its own right; The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons), part of the Scottish Division. A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday  practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt.
